drawing on cotton

The most recent “Migration Map” (2024) by Tanja Ostojić, consists of an intimate drawing, tread, aquarelle and writing on a found peace of cotton, (size: 33 x 45,5 cm) and, has been commissioned by, and included in By the Means at Hand, Vlatka Horvat’s project for the Croatian Pavilion at the 60. International Art Exhibition Venice Biennale. Ostojić tried to reconstruct and locate cities and places she lived at for a minimum duration of three months at one take, including: Titovo Uzice (1972*), Titograd (1972-1975), Novi Beograd (1975-1998), Belgrade (1994-98), Nantes (1998-99), Belgrade (1999) Paris (1999), Ljubljana (1999-2001), Belgrade (2001-02), Düsseldorf (2002-05), Bourges (2003), Berlin (ongoing since 2003), Malmö (2005-06), Santanyí (2011), Istanbul (2021), Berlin (based since 2003).
By the Means at Hand installation is breaking out of the borders of national representation and ‘a solo’ exclusivity, and includes a display of artworks by numerous contributing artists reflecting on their own experiences of migration, alongside the traces produced by processes of encounter and exchange. Exhibition is curated by Antonia Majača who underlines importance of alternative economy of the transportation of the artworks and the fact that the wood used to build the construction revived its third life.
Ostojić as well took part in the alternative logistics, bringing along her artwork, a contribution by Vlad Brăteanu, from Berlin to Venice.
